Ines Ventura

Ines Ramirez Ventura, 94, of Kapaau, died Dec. 2, 2021 at her residence. Born Jan. 26, 1927 in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a retired housekeeper for the former King Kamehameha Beach Hotel, former worker for Kawamata Farms and member of Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Dec. 18 at Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Mass. Burial to follow at Hawi Catholic Cemetery. Casual attire.

She is survived by sons, Bradley Ventura of Waimea, Ernesto (Recolita) Ventura of Honolulu, Oahu, Roger (Tessie) Ventura of Waikoloa, Romeo (Janet) Ventura of Kohala, Roberto (Noemi) Ventura of Waikoloa and Carmelo (Gladys) Ventura of Kapaau; daughters, Margarita (Anatolio) Visaya of Keaau and Rosita Cabrera of Sun Valley, California; 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Judy Mullen

Judy Kay Mullen, 77, of Laupahoehoe, died Nov. 29, 2021 at Hilo Medical Center. Born June 16, 2944, in Santa Monica, California, she retired from the City of Brentwood, California as an executive secretary.

Services held.

She is survived by husband, Thomas Mullen of Laupahoehoe; daughter, Renee Russo of Laupahoehoe; sister, Linda Hupp of Kamas, Utah; and one grandson.

Sumako Masuda

Sumako Masuda, 91, of Hilo died Nov. 6, 2021, at her residence. Born in Hilo, she was a retired pre-school teacher and member of the Kinoole Baptist Church.

She is survived by husband, Masaaki Masuda of Hilo; son, Mark Masuda of Hilo; daughter, Cara (Randy) Kunimura of Kaimuki; brother, Harry Sakai of Honolulu; sisters, Mildred Higa of Hilo, Doreen (Burton) Akita of Hilo; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rev. Harriet Daog

The Rev. Harriet Haliaka “Clara” Daog, 81, of Hilo, died Oct. 1, 2021, at her residence. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired kupuna with Keaau and Waiakea elementary schools, kahu of Opihikao Congregational Church and member of the Hale O Na Alii.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Dec. 19 at Haili Congregational Church for a 6 p.m. service. Committal services at noon Dec. 20 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Pavilion. Aloha attire; no flowers.

She is survived by sons, Rudolph Daog and Chris Daog of Hilo, Lawrence (Jennifer) Daog of Texas and Matthew (Valerie) Daog of Oahu; daughters, Sharon (Jovany) Pacheco of Kona, Darlene Consuelo (Daniel) Gangano of Mountain View and Patricia Carter of Connecticut; brothers, Francis (Susan) Claveria of Oahu, Jeffrey Makuakane of Hilo and Timothy Makuakane of South Carolina; sisters, Sandra Claveria of Hilo and Gabriel Makuakane of Oahu; caregivers, Kim Kuikahi, Tyanna Fontes and Eleisha Johnson, all of Hilo; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Sandra Strong

Sandra Jun Mei Strong, 79, of Keaau, died Dec. 7, 2021, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Honolulu, she was a retail sales and service person, automobile service advisor and homemaker.

She is survived by husband, Perry Strong of Keaau; son, Tyler (Samantha) Ng of Kailua, Oahu; daughter, Rochelle (Nathan Officer) Ng of Hillsboro, Oregon; sister, Gloria Viveiros of Kailua, Oahu; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bradley “Brad” Mark Ellis, 68, of Kailua-Kona, died Dec. 11, 2021, at his residence. Born Oct. 9, 1953 in Lynwood, California, he was a retired registered nurse and member of United Church of God, AIA.

He is survived by wife, Sherry Ellis of Kailua-Kona; mother, Joan Schulz; siblings, Steve (Denise) Ellis, David Ellis, Greg (Judy) Ellis, Theresa (Frank) Bordonaro, Tom Ellis all of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
